Thielert in Big Trouble

In a tragic turn of events Thielert Aircraft Engines GmbH, makers of turbo diesel aircraft engines, filed for insolvency (bankruptcy) this week and is still having difficulty coming up with a plan for continued operations.

This news comes just after announcing that the company's founder, Frank Theilert, and CFO, Roswitha Grosser, were fired for actions related to the company's finances. It seems that the company's investors are not satisfied with the current plan to overcome these difficulties and will shut the company down unless a suitable plan can be devised.

Thielert's diesel engines have made a slow entrance into the aviation market, but they give us the perfect opportunity to abandon 100LL forever. They also offer performance and efficiency advantages that traditional 100LL engines simply can't match.

It would be a terrible loss to aviation if this company were to be dissolved. I hope that one way or another their engines can continue to be produced, as they stand to revolutionize the piston aircraft market. We'll let you know as news develops.
