Cold War Engineering Makes for Hot Design

Ted — Thu, 07/09/2009 - 22:39

The Dew Line points out an industrial design firms renderings of a "future" Sukhoi PAK FA fighter aircraft. The designs are stunning, but at this point they're also purely hypothetical. The actual PAK FA aircraft is anticipated to pull heavily from the design of both the SU-47 and MIG 1.44. originally scheduled to debut in the 2007 time frame the fighter has seen numerous delays. The latest reports put the airframe completion near this August.

By some accounts this fighter is key to survival of the Russian aerospace industry. With competition from the F-22, Eurofighter and the Joint Strike Fighter that have already reached the market. India carries a special interest in the project as well having signed an agreement to produce their version of the jet, dubbed the HAL FGFA, in partnership with Russia.

The project has been, and continues to be shrouded in secrecy, this bit of eye candy is all you've got to tide yourself over for now.
