Green Aviation Might Get a New Look

If these winglets weren't being developed by API, I would probably think they're a joke. However, I don't remember the last time I saw a 737 without a set of winglets designed by Aviation partners Inc. This picture, posted on AviationWeek.com, is of a Falcon 50 with new '“spiroid” loop-shaped wing tip devices.'

API estimates that their original winglet modification has saved over 2 Billion gallons of jet fuel. They also say that the winglets reduce aircraft noise...an increasingly problematic concern. Their newest design looks a bit out there, but Aviation Week makes it sound like they're pretty confident in the merits of their design. If they work, I'm sure nobody will care how unusual they look. Airlines all over the world have been buying API's products for years and I'm sure they'd go for these ones too. We'll let you know when we hear how these new devices work. Keep your eyes open, you may be seeing them before too long.
