Aviation Media Podcast

Ted — Tue, 08/12/2008 - 19:11

Jason and I were recently approached to take part in a first of it's kind aviation "new media" meet-up. The event was hosted by Courtney and Max from the Aviation Geeks Podcast and was a spectacular success. I had a chance to put my plug in for AviationBull and listen to some other really interesting folks involved in aviation on the internet. You can check out their synopsis for a list of participants, and you can also expect some articles here once we've gotten a chance to explore some of these new ventures... way cool...

NASA Form 277B

Jon — Thu, 07/31/2008 - 21:56

I know many of us, in our initial training, were introduced to the NASA Aviation Safety Reporting System (ASRS), but in the intervening two to twenty years, some of us may have forgotten exactly how powerful a resource the Aviation Safety program is.

Aviation Geeks Gather

Ted — Mon, 06/16/2008 - 19:10

Robert Mark over at JetWhine has been so kind as to spearhead a gathering of the aviation bloggers at this years EAA Airventure. For the venue and location information click here. I'm guessing that the wifi access in that part of the grounds will be unduly taxed, "non-geek" attendees should plan accordingly.

Situational Awareness

Ted — Mon, 05/12/2008 - 23:51

Do you want to know exactly when your in-laws are arriving? Or maybe you just want more information about where exactly that connecting flight is being held up? If so you should check out FlightAware a way cool flight tracker. I've used it with great success, you get a few more features with an account but for the most part the vanilla version does just what you need. It's a great tool for your favorite airport watering hole with a hotspot. Got something different? Let us know what tools you use in the comments below.

What are the odds you get there on time...

Ted — Fri, 04/25/2008 - 19:36

Lifehacker had a pretty cool post a couple of weeks ago pointing out a new site that predict delays affecting your airline travel. Delaycast is the name and they take a statistical approach to looking at your flights and how often they happen to be on time. It's an interesting planning tool, give it a try next time your booking flights.

WiFi Update for Oshkosh

Ted — Wed, 04/23/2008 - 21:44

EAA has issued a press release updating the WiFi plan for campers at this years Airventure extravaganza. If you've attended in past years you've probably noticed that the coverage left a little something to be desired. This year you've got a heads up though, so take that into account when you're staking out your space.
