Wanna Have an Airport Open House?
I was looking around AOPA’s website today and noticed a new program that they are recommending that we all participate in. AOPA has published a guide to holding an Airport Open House.
As I was reading through the pamphlet AOPA has a lot of good recommendations on how to facilitate an open house. They have included ideas on who to invite, what to plan and how to invite distinguished visitors. There is also information on how to avoid some of the common pitfalls that occur when there is an open house.
I think that this program is a great way to get true aviation information to the public. You wouldn’t need the open house to be as big as Air Venture or Sun ‘N Fun, but having a few airplanes, EAA Young Eagles flights,
and even a local CAP unit could help put a few new pilots in the left seat at your local airport. Plus you would be able to get a lot of good press for what aviation brings to your community.
Let us know if you decide to participate in this program, who knows we could even help with getting some publicity for your event. At the very least it would provide us a good reason for a cross country to your local airport!
